Mbaeteka is a part of the International Player Pathway program and was recruited by former Giants star Osi Umenyiora. Working to help push football in Africa, Umenyiora selected Mbaeteka, originally from Nigeria, to train at an NFL academy in London. After seeing him in a player showcase, the Giants opted to sign Mbaeteka, likely giving him a chance to earn a roster spot in camp. Umenyiora said of Mbaeteka, "Once you see him, you know he's physically imposing and in a year or two if you immerse him in football culture, he's going to be fantastic."
