NFL DFS Playbook: Week 15 Tuesday Night Football

Published: Dec 21, 2021
Welcome to the NFL Week 15 Tuesday Night Football Slate!
For the first time this season, we’re dealing with games being pushed to Tuesday thanks to the COVID outbreak that is ripping through the NFL. And as a result, we’ve seen some disastrous play over the past few days. Both Monday Night Football games were a bust and that comes on the heels of one of the worst Sundays we’ve seen in quite some time. Does Tuesday buck the trend? I hardly think so. Of the four teams playing tonight, only one – The Philadelphia Eagles – haven’t been decimated by the pandemic and while that may be considered good news, there still may be a bit of a quarterback controversy there anyway.
This two-game Playbook format seemed to work nicely for everyone yesterday, so we’re going to continue with that again today.
If you are playing showdown slates, I have suggestions for the captain/MVP seat below and if there are some long-shot dart-throws to look at, I will have them listed there as well.
The DFS sites used to do a Mon-Thurs two-game slate which we used to write up each week, so if you’re a longtime subscriber, this basically will bring that style back. If you’re new, this is exactly what you would expect from a two-game Playbook.
Also, be sure to check with the Fantasy Alarm NFL Week 15 Reserve/COVID list as that will be continuously updated throughout the day.
Again, for short slates – whether it’s single-game or a two-game slate – your focus should be on GPP tournaments only. There is just too much overlap for cash games and given the COVID situation of at least two of these teams, there could be a lot of last-minute pivots as news comes rolling in. Having some skin in the game is great, but recognize the fact that you should not be over-investing in these contests. We all want to hit the million-dollar jackpots, but, as I’ve always said, these are more lottery tickets than they are a skill-based contest.
OK. Lecture over. Let’s get to tonight’s action.

---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Matthew Stafford | SEA @ LA Tue 7:00 | 6700 | 8500 |
He'll be incredibly popular today as the Seahawks are allowing the most passing yards per game (278.9) with 18 passing touchdowns allowed on the season. Opposing quarterbacks have posted a 94.3 passer rating against them and Stafford has an array of weapons to throw it all over the field. We do expect the Rams to run the ball a little more now that they have both Henderson and Michel in the backfield, but we all know how Sean McVay likes to run his offense. Stafford should earn his keep. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
QB | Jalen Hurts | WAS @ PHI Tue 7:00 | 6500 | 8200 |
This is a tough one as Hurts had been questionable all week with an ankle issue, but enters Tuesday without any injury designation. He'll start, but if he does struggle, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to think Nick Sirianni could pull him in favor of Gardner Minshew, so using him comes with some risk. If he plays well, then this match-up is super-tasty as the Football Team is riddled with COVID cases and their pass defense has been extremely weak all year, allowing almost 260 passing yards per game with 27 touchdowns allowed through the air. Game Type: GPP Weather: Light rain | ||||
QB | Russell Wilson | DAL @ NYG Sun 1:00 | 6100 | 7500 |
Wilson comes in as a decent contrarian option as few people are ready to trust him despite three-straight games with two touchdowns and at least 230 passing yards. Barring any last-minute changes, he's likely to be without his favorite target, Tyler Lockett, but still has plenty of weapons at his disposal. Perhaps Lockett's absence helps restore the once great on-field relationship he shared with DK Metcalf and the two ride off together into the sunset with an upset victory in hand. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
QB | Garrett Gilbert | NE @ IND Sat 8:15 | 4800 | 6400 |
This will be the super-contrarian pick, but anyone who actually watched the AAF knows that Gilbert can sling the rock. He dominated in the AAF with the Orlando Apollos and earned himself a back-up gig with the Dallas Cowboys last season. The Eagles pass defense is allowing just over 227 passing yards per game , they've given up 22 touchdowns through the air and opposing quarterbacks have posted an impressive 97.6 passer rating against them. He's got solid weapons at his disposal and a decent match-up so if his offensive line can give him the protection he needs, he just might surprise everyone. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
RB | Antonio Gibson | NE @ IND Sat 8:15 | 6800 | 7400 |
With Gilbert under center, we can expect Ron RIvera and Scott Turner to go with a run-heavy scheme to start and with no J.D. McKissic, Gibson should see strong volume out of the backfield which should include most of the passing work. The Eagles are allowing almost 110 rushing yards per game with 13 rushing touchdowns, so look for Gibson to pay off with the volume he should see. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
RB | Darrell Henderson | SEA @ LA Tue 7:00 | 5500 | 7000 |
Henderson was activated from the COVID list, but he was also dealing with a quad injury over the past two weeks as well. In that time, Sony Michel impressed to the point where we expect this to be a shared role. We like the match-up as Seattle is allowing 116 rushing yards per game with 11 rushing touchdowns on the season, but Seattle also ranks 31st in DVOA against running back pass-plays which Henderson should see plenty of out of the backfield. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
RB | Sony Michel | SEA @ LA Tue 7:00 | 5800 | 7000 |
Michel did a real nice job with the volume he saw over the last two weeks, averaging 22 carries for 100 yards per game with one touchdown. He's certainly done enough to earn a share of the carries with Henderson back, but just how much of a share is going to depend on game flow and how effective Henderson is having battled both a quad issue and COVID. He carries some risk if using him for your lineups. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
RB | Miles Sanders | DAL @ NYG Sun 1:00 | 5700 | 6700 |
Sanders is coming off a strong three-game run in which he's seen decent volume and posted a 5.7 YPC average. He didn't get into the end zone during that stretch as Jalen Hurts did some serious goal-line vulturing, but the opportunity could be there tonight. Washington run defense has been sound through out much of the year, but they have lost players to both injuries and COVID. His price tag is good, though not great, but he's probably one of the more reliable players for touches on this slate. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
RB | Rashaad Penny | CAR @ BUF Sun 1:00 | 5400 | 6400 |
Many will flock to Penny this week due to his impressive 137-yard, two-touchdown performance last week, but keep in mind that this match-up is going to be a tough one. Will he get shut down completely? No. But the Rams have allowed barely 100 yards per game on the ground this season. However, where Penny could be effective is both at the goal line and if the Seahawks can get him the ball out in space. The Rams have allowed 15 rushing touchdowns this season and they do rank 22nd in DVOA against running back pass-plays. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Cloudy | ||||
WR | Cooper Kupp | SEA @ LA Tue 7:00 | 8800 | 9500 |
The last time Kupp faced the Seahawks, he posted seven catches for 92 yards on 10 targets. He did not get into the end zone, but it's difficult to believe Seattle is going to blank him twice. Kupp is coming off back-to-back 100-yard efforts and has a touchdown in each. Stafford will lean heavily on him as always and he should pay off if you can afford his price tag. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
WR | DK Metcalf | TEN @ PIT Sun 1:00 | 6400 | 7500 |
Without Tyler Lockett, Russell Wilson is going to have to rekindle his relationship with Metcalf if the Seahawks are going to want to be competitive, let alone win this game. The two have seemed off all season long, but perhaps with a few practices without Lockett can help turn things around. Hard to say how chalky he'll be, but for this price, I am going to have more than just a few shares in my lineups. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Terry McLaurin | WAS @ PHI Tue 7:00 | 6500 | 7300 |
He's off the injury report and will do his best to torment the Eagles secondary tonight. He has yet to face them at all this season, but Philadelphia ranks 27th in DVOA against the opponent's top wide receiver. Garrett Gilbert has a strong arm, so expect him to take some shots downfield and see if he can't get a big touchdown to McLaurin and surprise the defense early in the game. Once the two connect, they should be able to build a decent rapport against a pass defense that ranks 24th in DVOA. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Light rain | ||||
WR | Odell Beckham | NYJ @ MIA Sun 1:00 | 4900 | 6500 |
Beckham cleared the COVID protocol and was activated a few days ago, so he's had more time to practice with Stafford leading into this game. He's seen 22 targets over the last three games and has turned them into 13 catches for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Given some of the struggles this Seattle secondary has seen over the course of the season, we're going to look for a fourth-straight game with a touchdown tonight. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
WR | Van Jefferson | TEN @ PIT Sun 1:00 | 5400 | 6400 |
The 25-year old has really developed into a strong, reliable receiver for Stafford and his versatility allows him to line up both on the outside and in the slot. The Rams are doing a great job moving him around and expanding his route tree which has paid strong dividends in the form of 11 catches for 192 and three touchdowns over his last three games. Expect him to see his usual target share and provide you with solid production. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | DeVonta Smith | WAS @ PHI Tue 7:00 | 5800 | 6000 |
With the Washington secondary playing as poorly as it has all year and now it gets slapped with some COVID casualties, this should be a plus match-up for Smith. His target volume has been disappointing over the past few weeks and he's failed to score in three-straight games, but if they can just get him the ball, he can handle whatever makeshift coverage gets thrown his way. After all, Washington has coughed up 27 touchdowns through the air and they allow the third-most fantasy points per game to the wide receiver position. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Light rain | ||||
WR | Quez Watkins | ARI @ DET Sun 1:00 | 3700 | 5500 |
He could be a sneaky play tonight as Washington ranks just 22nd in DVOA against the slot receiver. Between the losses in the secondary and over the middle to their linebacker corps, the Football Team is going to have issues with Watkins' speed and ability to add yards after the catch. If you think the Eagles go pass-heavy to expose the Washington shortcomings, he could be a nice dart to throw. Game Type: GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
WR | Adam Humphries | HOU @ JAC Sun 1:00 | 3800 | 5200 |
The Eagles secondary ranks 18th in DVOA against the slot receiver and should Washington fall behind early and focus more on the passing attack, Humphries should be a good guy for Gilbert to lean on. We've seen that before as rookie or inexperienced quarterbacks lean more on the short passes over the middle of the field. If that's the case here, then Humphries in in-play. Game Type: GPP Weather: Cloudy | ||||
WR | DeAndre Carter | LV @ CLE Mon 5:00 | 3600 | 5100 |
Carter is best-used as a deep threat and should be able to help stretch the field for Gilbert when he needs it. He only sees a handful of targets on average, but did have a three-game stretch where he found the end zone three times. Given the quarterback situation, it's not really known what his role will look like, but you have to take everything into account when your own quarterback is the unknown in the equation. Game Type: GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Jalen Reagor | KC @ LAC Thu 8:20 | 3400 | 5000 |
He's a longshot dart-throw at best as the drops really hurt his credibility with Jalen Hurts and the coaching staff. He did see seven targets just two games ago, so maybe the struggles of the Washington secondary make it a little easier for him? Again, just a dart-throw. Game Type: GPP Weather: Clear | ||||
WR | Freddie Swain | MIN @ CHI Mon 8:15 | 3400 | 4700 |
While the Rams rank 10th in DVOA against slot receivers, they are allowing over 50 receiving yards per game to them. How much work Swain gets is likely to be in proportion to how Wilson and Metcalf jell. If Metcalf returns to “favorite target” status, then Swain is likely to only see a few targets, especially with Jalen Ramsey on him for most of the game. However, if Metcalf does perform well, there's always a chance the Rams pull Ramsey out of the slot and have him shadow. They haven't done it at all this season, but you still need to account for the possibility. Game Type: GPP Weather: Partly cloudy | ||||
WR | Dee Eskridge | NYJ @ MIA Sun 1:00 | 3300 | 4700 |
Eskeridge could be a very interesting dart throw, especially if he fills in the role vacated by Tyler Lockett. Like his teammate Freddie Swain, he's only seen a small handful of targets, but if you believe in his abilities, he could work as a nice pivot if you're stacking Seahawks. Game Type: GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
TE | Dallas Goedert | WAS @ PHI Tue 7:00 | 4900 | 6400 |
Washington has done a good job guarding the tight end this season, but with the loss of their safeties thanks to COVID, Goedert could be a strong play this week. Aside from DeVonta Smith, there's not a whole lot of trust being thrown around to the other pass-catchers, so that could enhance the target share for the man who lit up the Jets defense just before the bye week. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Light rain | ||||
TE | Gerald Everett | MIN @ CHI Mon 8:15 | 3600 | 5100 |
The Rams do a very good job at guarding the tight end, but with the likely loss of Tyler Lockett, Everett could see some extra targets come his way. The biggest knock on him are his fumbles, but the Seahawks continue to put their trust in him with five red zone targets over the past four games which have yielded two touchdowns in his last three. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Partly cloudy | ||||
TE | Ricky Seals-Jones | NE @ IND Sat 8:15 | 3400 | 5000 |
We were going to pivot to John Bates at the last minute, but Seals-Jones, who was dealing with a non-COVID illness, was able to put in a full practice on Monday and should be good to go. Despite seeing fewer snaps than Bates last week, Seals-Jones still had twice as many targets, so look for him to get the starting nod with the majority of looks once again. You just might even be able to get both in-play here as the Eagles do give up the most fantasy points to the tight end position and with Gilbert under center, he could lean heavily on them. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
TE | Kendall Blanton | KC @ LAC Thu 8:20 | 2500 | 4000 |
Total dart-throw here. Tyler Higbee is on the COVID list so Blanton will serve as the top tight end. With such a strong receiving corps and both running backs healthy, it's difficult to see him getting much in the way of targets, but if you're punting the position to get some bigger names in, here you go. Game Type: GPP Weather: Clear | ||||
DST | Philadelphia Eagles | WAS @ PHI Tue 7:00 | 3400 | 4800 |
Given the struggles Washington has had with COVID, the fact that they're going with a third-string quarterback and that they have 21 giveaways on the season, we'll look to the Eagles as a sound defense to use this week. The Eagles have 13 takeaways and 1 sacks on the season so they'll look to pad those numbers tonight if they can. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Light rain | ||||
DST | Los Angeles Rams | SEA @ LA Tue 7:00 | 3200 | 4500 |
The Rams have 19 takeaways and 31 sacks on the season, so while the Seahawks don't really turn the ball over too much, the Rams are going to be in Russell Wilson's face all night which could lead to some if they can rattle him. Having a guy like Aaron Donald rushing the passer always creates chaos, so invest here if you can. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy |
Matthew Stafford, QB | ||||
He'll be incredibly popular today as the Seahawks are allowing the most passing yards per game (278.9) with 18 passing touchdowns allowed on the season. You just might even be able to get both in-play here as the Eagles do give up the most fantasy points to the tight end position and with Gilbert under center, he could lean heavily on them. Kendall Blanton, TE | ||||
Total dart-throw here. Tyler Higbee is on the COVID list so Blanton will serve as the top tight end. With such a strong receiving corps and both running backs healthy, it's difficult to see him getting much in the way of targets, but if you're punting the position to get some bigger names in, here you go. Philadelphia Eagles, DST | ||||
Los Angeles Rams, DST | ||||
The Rams have 19 takeaways and 31 sacks on the season, so while the Seahawks don't really turn the ball over too much, the Rams are going to be in Russell Wilson's face all night which could lead to some if they can rattle him. Having a guy like Aaron Donald rushing the passer always creates chaos, so invest here if you can. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy |
